Middle
School (Grades 7 and 8) addresses the special needs of early
adolescents providing a positive supportive climate with high
expectations for each student to successfully transition to
the college preparatory curriculum of the Upper School. A variety
of instructional practices and assessments that promote learning
are utilized. Increasingly rigorous academic courses are departmentalized
to give specialized instruction in each subject while study
and time management skills remain a focus.
Math, science, English, Spanish, and social studies are taught
by separate teachers in multidisciplinary units throughout the
year. Students continue to develop their abilities in technology,
athletics, and the arts with required courses that include choir,
band, theater arts, physical education, studio art, and computer
skills.
Fostering the students’ capacity for abstract and critical
thinking as well as their interpersonal and academic skills,
the Middle School curriculum encourages individuals to become
responsible academic students, outstanding citizens, and committed
members of the community.
