Winner
Eliza Mongeau

Winners
of this year’s Intel-affiliated Science and Engineering
Fair held March 9 to March 11, 2010 in The Good Hope
School Campus Center have been announced.
Upper
School winners are: First Place, sophomore Eliza Mongeau
with her project on the antibacterial properties of local
plants; Second Place, freshman Diana Cardenas with her
project on ratios found in nature; Third Place, junior
Eric Guzman with his solar-powered air filter. Honorable
mentions go to sophomore Alex Julien and freshmen Gabriella
Canales, Jaleel Christopher and Cassandra Ceballos.
Middle
School winners are: First Place, John Devera; Second Place,
Dennis Vanterpool; Third Place, Russel Ollie, Jr. Honorable
Mentions go to Duncan Coles, Selesha Subnaik, Cerrelle
Lee and Darryl Donohue.
Sixth
Grade Winners are: First place, Morgan Coles and Kyle Fennessy,
Second Place, Ricardo Vidal, Ky’Ara Hodge, and Elyse
Mitchell, Third Place, Aliyah Allick, Lydia Polean and
Kaseema Serrant.
This
year’s fair was judged by: Mr. Kemit Amon-Lewis,
The Nature Conservancy, Mr. Donald Bailey, UVI-AES Research
Specialist, Dr. Bethany Bradford, DVM, Department of Agriculture,
Mr. Olasee Davis, University of the Virgin Islands, Mr.
John George, Vice President of Technology, HOVENSA, Ms.
Anna-Lisa Johanson, JD-MPH, Ms. Dee Osinski, Virgin Islands
Waste Management, Dr. Michelle Peterson, University of
the Virgin Islands, and Mr. David Walworth, Naval Engineer.
Special
Judges were:Dr. Wayne Ethridge and Dr. Dara Hamilton,Association
of Virgin Islands Psychologists, Mr. Jim Smith, Engineer,
Global Crossing, Mr. Tim Manning, VP Environmental Health
and Safety, HOVENSA, Ms. Phyllis Biddle and Ms. Pedra Chafers,
The Good Hope School Art Department.
This
year, The Good Hope School will send six students to the
INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair. These
students will be the creators of the top two individual
projects and the top team project (to compete) and two
other students (to observe).
The INTEL
International Science and Engineering Fair brings together
the top students in the World for a week in May. The approximately
1400 students at the International Fair will inspire each
other and adults to look at problems in a new way. Participating
students will have the chance to meet Nobel Laureates,
go on field trips of scientific interest, and set their
own personal goals a little higher for the future. |
