Henry Mark was the individual winner at St. Croix 's MathCounts Meet on Thursday at The Good Hope School's Campus Center. Good Hope eighth grader, Danny Kenses placed 7 th overall.  Both Mark and Kenses will compete in the Territorial competition which will be held on St. Croix, March 27th.  Good Hope's team of Henry Mark, Bryon Mays, Eliza Mongeau, and Zoe Petievich finished second overall in the team competition. Other Good Hope students competing were Kelley Newman, Julia Borden, and Osei Wallace, with alternates Cornell George, Rafael Lopez, and Yasmine Connor. The Good Hope teams were coached by Middle School Math instructor, Geneva Lockhart.

The MathCounts competition consists of four rounds. The first three rounds are: the Sprint Round which tests accuracy where individual students must complete 30 challenging problems in 40 minutes, the Target Round which consists of competitors solving eight multi-step problems that test their mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills, and the Team Round which consists of 10 problems that teams solve together. Good Hope eighth grader, Henry Mark won the final Countdown Round , which is a fast-paced, oral competition for top-scoring individuals (based on scores in the Sprint and Target Rounds). This is Mark's second year competing in the MathCounts competition for Good Hope. Raquel Cedano, Director of Good Hope's Lower and Middle School commented: " We are thrilled that our student's hard work and dedication led to a second place finish and that we have two students moving onto the territorial competition."

More than 60 students competed in the big island's MathCounts meet from Elena Christian Junior High School, John H. Woodson, Juanita Gardine Elementary School, Ricardo Richards Elementary School , Alfredo Andrews Elementary School, St. Croix Country Day School, the Iqra Academy, and Church of God Holiness Academy.
